Hebrews 6:13 to 7:28.

If by this point the recipients of the letter to the Hebrews still needed further convincing, the writer turns once again to the Old Testament. The focus this time is on the fulfilment of God’s covenant promise to Abraham, another of the Hebrews’ much revered ancestors. They too are “heirs of what was promised”, and so they too “have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure” (6:17-18).

In chapter 7 the standing of Melchizedek the Priest is called into question when compared to Jesus. Melchizedek was esteemed in such a way that he was considered to be the perfect priest. However, if that were true, then why was Jesus needed as the great(er) High Priest?

Hebrews 7:22 secures our hope as an anchor all the more because “Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant”. The rest of chapter 7 explains to us the depth of that “better covenant”.
